Team Raises $1,300 to Support Families at Christmas
December 6, 2011 – Barrie, ON: The Barrie Colts Novice AAA Team held a skate-a-thon on Monday, December 5th at the Barrie Molson Centre and raised more than $1,300 to support needy families this Christmas. The team hoped to raise enough funds to support a family with four children, through the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board’s Christmas Cheer program. Because the campaign was so successful they will be able to provide gifts, toiletries and food vouchers to additional families in need.
The boys on the team collected pledges in return for skating 80 laps and then shooting as many pucks as possible in a five-minute period. In order to be a successful team, the boys know that they have to do their best to represent the spirit of competitive sport both on and off the ice. The entire team embraced that challenge by collecting pledges from family, friends and neighbours and exceeding their fundraising goals.
Congratulations to the entire team for working so hard to provide a special Christmas to those in need.
